Staffords was founded as a family business by Jim Stafford in 1978. At the time, large supermarkets had began to pop up in Drogheda focusing on convenient food. Jim saw a niche in the market for a local traditional grocer that could rival them on freshness and compete on price. He set up the first shop in Laurence Street selling such produce; fresh, locally sourced meat, game and vegetables
from the local farms of Julianstown and tasty baked treats from the family kitchen. His motto was “quality produce at realistic prices”. Almost 40 years later, some things have changed, but we still operate under Jim’s mantra, with a real focus on fresh produce, local produce and affordable produce. That’s fresh thinking…
We offer our whole selection of hot and cold food in our bustling takeaway delicatessen located in Drogheda Town Centre. Pop in for a takeaway lunch, choose a freshly pre-made salad, wrap or roll from the “grab & go” range, or “design your own” at our sandwich bar. Grab some hot takeaway dinner for later or something sweet from the bakery, where you can also order celebration cakes made to order. To compliment our vast array of freshly made produce, we also stock a superb range of locally produced jams, oils, chutneys and other fine food.
Since 2000, we have been serving fresh and wholesome food to patients, staff and visitors in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, even operating a Mon-Fri trolley service to all open wards offering a selection of goods from both the shop & the café. Downstairs, we have a comfortable sit in café with great food and friendly staff. All our food is freshly made each day and we offer a full range of sandwiches, soups, salads, fruit, cakes and treats. Our shop is open 364 days a year and has everything you need to make your stay in hospital more pleasant from books and newspapers, to phone credit and stamps, from balloons and chocolates, to crisps and ice cream, and if you need it, we can give you cash back on your Visa card too.
